The Daruieste Aripi Association conducted the first national study on the needs of parents and children with cancer in Romania, with the support of a group of researchers from Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca.
The research received the approval of the Scientific Council of Ethics of Babeș-Bolyai University.
Given that in Romania there are no studies to highlight the needs of parents facing the process of diagnosis, hospitalization and treatment of children with cancer, the Daruieste Aripi Association in 2020 with a group of researchers from the Department of Psychology of Babeș-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca and with psychologists from pediatric oncology departments in three regions of the country initiated and implemented a qualitative study with 31 participants to identify how the family / parent perceives the crisis situation and factors that aggravate it (beyond the disease, diagnostic procedures and treatments), as well as factors that could make the experience of the disease and hospitalization less stressful and painful for both the child and the parent.
The study is part of the activities undertaken in the project "Treatments at home for children with serious diseases in Dobrogea - The first network of integrated care and long-term outreach support for children with cancer."
